Weapon Balance

A sword, is a well balanced weapon. The center of balance of the blade itself is nearer to the center, when the guard handle and pommel are added, the center of balance is now closer to the guard

This gives the swordsman greater control in using the sword

The balance of a walking stick has the same balance as a sword, as the end of a walking stick has a metal pommel which in turn effects how the walking stick is used

A stick, without a weighted end is used and held in a slightly different manner

An Irish walking stick like the shillelagh, has a natural pommel at one end (knob-end) therefore the center of balance is nearer to the pommel
