Our Beer Fund

Join Us In Reviving Our Irish Martial Arts Heritage

The origins of this Irish stick fighting are lost in antiquity but probably share a common root with other European stick fighting systems such as quarterstaff, German Stockfechten, Portuguese Jogo do Pau, etc.

We welcome people of all backgrounds together with those who have trained in other disciplines. We are interested in training with people who have an open mind with regard to training

How You Can Join In Reviving Irish Stick Fighting

The Reviving Irish Stick Fighting has now grown and is still growing , not just in Ireland but world wide

Currently this is about reviving Irish Martial Art traditions. With " reviving " been the key word here. If enough people teach Irish Stick Fighting or their level of understanding of the art, we can revive the art

There are more and more other independent clubs starting up in ireland and elsewhere

Anyone has a right to set up their own Fighting Faction teaching Irish Stick Fighting, If you are teaching martial arts that include weapons training , Irish Stick Fighting could be a good add-on to your Club

Know that you are doing, any form of weapons training is very dangerous

If you do (and we hope you do) Start teaching Irish Stick Fighting in your Club, We will put a link to your web page

What the Wexford Fighting Faction is doing, is independent of other Fighting Faction Clubs and what others are doing

Fighting Faction Over-View

All clubs are totaly independent of each other

There is NO head Grasshopper or Topdog running the show (Top of the cash pile)

Anyone has a right to set up their own Fighting Faction

If some people turn out to be - MUPPETS - Then they are on their own

Objective

Fighting Faction Clubs are dedicated to the study, reconstruction, practice and promotion of Irish Stick Fighting

We work together and help each other, because we want to, not because we have to

You train and share info with who you want or not, that is up to you

Where we are getting our techniques from

Put it this way...

The irish were involved in battles all over europe, they showed what they knew (sword / stickfighting) when they were over there, and when they came back to ireland they showed what they learnt

From this point of view and with this mind set, everything and everything is fair game

Things are now a lot more interesting.... think about it ....

Irish Stick Fighting is a about swords and swordsmanship, not just stick fighting because you cannot study one without the other

As the prohibition on carrying swords became wide-spread in europe, people were still able to carry walking sticks, fencing masters ect would model and transfer the techniques of sabre fencing ect, to the walking stick

Now working from that point of referance, all WMA unarmed and weapons arts are now open to be modeled and to transfer their techniques to Irish Stick Fighting

If it works, you make it your own, if it does not work, then try something else that does

So where are the irish sword and stick fighting techniques, they are mixed up with the other europan fighting arts

Train with everyone - Learn from everyone

Reviving Irish Martial Arts Heritage

Because there is no denfinitive reference to turn to, people are free to suppose whatever they want about Irish stick fighting and stick fencing, swordsmanship and related techniques

Unlike the modern study of popular Asian fighting arts. there is not a great deal of accurate information or quality instruction readily accesible for this subject

We are a group of group of Irish Martial Artists training together who are committed to reviving Irish Martial Art traditions

Historical European Fighting Skills

The term "Martial Arts" means those arts concerned with the waging of war and is also associated with the "arts of mars" the Roman god of war

Irish Stick Fighting

We hope to realistically present the overall nature of Irish Stick Fighting weapons and their use. We are passionate about our subject and it is our sincere wish to see Irish stick fighting and stick fencing, acquire the respect and attention they deserve

When the Irish were banned from owning formal weapons, that innocent looking walking stick, called a bata or shillelagh, came into use as a serious weapon. As with any form of duelling, serious injury or death were always a risk and Irish stick fighting itself was eventually banned

We are concerned with the practical methods of Irish stick fighting, with accuiring the personal skills to protect ourselves. This is not a competitive sport, The focuses is on self defence
