At this point in training, your focus should be on your partner's body and the effect that your movement & technique have on your partner
At this level, the emphasis, when using a bata should be on having more flowing body movement with less effort. The movement is around an opponent's fixed point of balance and using effective strikes inside of the movement and the added leverage of the stick
Two hands are used to do 'in close' work as is one handed strick punching, also depending on the position of you and your opponent, it is possible, should an opening arise, to swing the weapon in order to hit your opponent
Using your body weight and movement, the blows are also given by swinging the body on the hips
Both hands and both ends of the bata are used, including punching, stick punches, kicking and grappling
