It wasn't until the Internet first started playing a role, that a few of the so called lineage holder of martial art schools, were found out to be guilty for material misrepresentation and that their business model was very sensitive to the precise pulse of the era ( 1960's - 1970's - 1980's - 1990's )
We do NOT claim to be teaching a well documented and proven family history of this traditional Irish fighting system
We are a group of Irish Martial Artists who train together and who are committed to reviving Irish Martial Art traditions
We welcome people of all backgrounds together with those who have trained in other disciplines
We are interested in training with people who have an open mind with regard to reviving Irish Martial Art traditions
Traditional European systems of stick fighting included a wide variety of methods of quarterstaff combat, which were detailed in numerous manuscripts written by masters-at-arms. Many of these methods became extinct but others adapted and survived as folk-sports and self defence systems
There is a lot more to this ancient Irish martial art than 'beating the bejesus' out of opponents with nothing more than a stick. Anyone can swing a stick, but to learn the irish fighting art of using a stick is a martial art in itself.
If you think this is a joke, come train with us and we will change your mind
The class is open to adults only
Under 18s may be permitted to train by prior agreement
We practice fighting skills for ourselves, not to put on displays or entertain the public
Many people are surprised to learn that Europe has complex martial arts systems like those found in Asia and elsewhere. Historical European martial arts (HEMA), also known as western martial arts (WMA), are the study and practice of Europe's indigenous hand-to-hand and armed combat systems
